What are you reading Wednesday?

Oh it's been a while since I've done one of these! I missed it, I love hearing about what everyone else is reading, so please let me know what you are delving into.

I am reading The Letter Opener by Kyo Maclear, while I am waiting excitedly for her next children's book, Virginia Wolf, to be published.

I just finished reading Magic Treehouse #6, Afternoon on the Amazon to my kids and now we are onto #7 starting tonight. My kids love acting out Jack and Annie, it's so fun. The interrupted sentences are still driving me nuts though!

My daughter is asking for Pink of Hearts everyday, she loves Pinkalicious.

But the big news is Spinky is reading to us! We have the first set of BOB books, recommended to me by Jacqui at Blooming in Japan (she also has an Etsy store and sells the best bags for kids in the world, of which we have two). He did not take to them the first time I introduced them, but I put them away and recently took them out and he loves showing off. I like it too!

What are you reading? What are your kids into?

  1. I like this! I am reading 'The Observations' by Jane Harris; catching up having just read her second book 'Gillespie and I' which is fantastically creepy. Bill is reading the first 'Mr Gum' book by Andy Stanton, which I think a hoot and hope he will too. He is also having Dave Shelton's 'A boy and a bear in a boat' read to him which we are all LOVING- I will be writing a rave review soon. Eddie is migrating between Michael Rosen poetry and some Julia Donaldson classics with a sprinkling of Dahl but mainly obsessed by CBeebies 'Gigglebiz' on the iplayer. sigh. it'll pass.

  2. I just finished BUD, NOT BUDDY by Christopher Paul Curtis (middle grade novel). I don't know how I managed not to read this book for so long. It's brilliant. I'm also reading SAY YOU'RE ONE OF THEM by Uwem Akpan. It's a collection of short stories, so I dip in and out as I feel inspired. My son (nearly 10-independent, heavy reader) still loves non-fiction and all things silly and/or graphic. My daughter (6- early reader- the following books are read to her) only wants to read fiction. She loves Fancy Nancy, Junie B, Jones, and now The Magic Tree House.

  3. I'm reading The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon. I'm loving this series. I have no idea what took me so long to get around to reading it. And to my children I'm attempting to read "Le Petit Prince" in French. I have no idea what gave me the idea to do that. I tend to tell them that mommy doesn't read French books but I gave it a go.

  4. I am currently reading Jellicoe Road and A Wrinkle in Time. I just finished (and liked) The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things (YA, totally not for kids).

  5. Have you seen M is For Maple? Canadiana. Alphabet. You get the idea. My girl demands that we read that one constantly. She's totally in love because there are lots of pictures of babies, which, when you're 20 months old, is one of the criteria of a good book. She's also super into Don't Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus. And, let's be real. I am too. Not least because I get to pretend to have a temper tantrum when I read that one.
