What Are You Reading? Wedneday

It's raining, it's pouring, it's the perfect day to snuggle up with a book.

I'm reading Falling Upwards by Wendy Nelson Tokunaga. It was originally released under her pen name, Kelly Sweetwood, but is now released under her name. Even better, this is free for Kindle right now (until April 27) on Amazon US.  It is a cute story, a cold case mystery with a little romance and a little humour. A nice light read, highly recommended. I'm not just saying that because she's a fellow foreign wife, she truly is a very engaging writer.

My daughter is reading A Pet for Petunia. Her brother is into Hey Canada! a book I got for a blog tour I'll be doing soon. It's for older kids and there's a lot of info on each page so it has been keeping him busy for a while! My blog tour date is June 26, mark it on your calendar!

What are you reading this week? Got any hot tips on other free books?

  1. Pouring with rain here too! has been for days or so it seems. There must be somewhere on earth it's still dry I suppose but it seems hard to believe looking out of the window.
I am (about to start) reading Maggie O' Farrell's 'The Vanishing act of Esme Lennox' that I was lucky enough to receive as a World Book Night gift.
Bill is reading graphic superhero novel 'Gum Girl' by Andi Watson notwithstanding its bright pink cover.
    Eddie is reading Eddie stuff.

    1. I am a bit confused as to World Book Night vs. International Book Giving Day and all the other book days I have only noticed in my past year of book bloggery! But anything that gets you a book is a good reason to celebrate I believe.

  2. I will need to check out Falling Uphill! No amazon US account though, do I need a us postal address to get one?

At the moment I am ploughing through Catching Fire, the second book in the Hunger Games series. I just finished the 4th Ice & Fire book at the weekend there and it was slow going so I'm enjoying these lighter reads. Not in subject matter perhaps as there's a lot of death but seeing as the target audience is young adult they're easy to zip through. I loved Battle Royale so am enjoying these too. Much prefer a spunky heroine like Katniss to a wet dishrag like Bella Swan... Once these are done I'm going to start on the Sookie Stackhouse series I think.

    1. Catching Fire was great. And yes, Katniss is a fantastic heroine who actually, you know, does stuff beside mope and smell like yummy blood.
No need for a US address, you can sign up with your Japanese one. That's what I did. :) You can download Kindle for PC/Mac and read it right on your screen too.

  3. This was appropriate, as I have run out of inspiration of what to read. Just downloaded Falling Uphill from Amazon UK (free there too), thank you!
It's pouring here too, but that's no surprise in England :)

  4. Not sure if I am double commenting- I think I lost that one. I just started reading the first Lord of the Rings book to my boys. We are all loving it! Thanks for the heads up on the free book. I just ordered it on my Kindle.
