It's a pretty miserable day in our house today. I have a stomach bug and there is a typhoon raging outside. Luckily we all have books for comfort.
I am trying to read a comfort book right now, an ARC of Sweet Talk by Julie Garwood. She is a great romance novelist, and I used to love her historical romances. This one is a contemporary but still her familiar writing.
My kids are still engrossed in My First Atlas of The World. Hours of sticker geography fun in that one.
What are you and your loved ones reading this week?
I just started Bartimaeus - The Ring of Solomon a couple of days ago and I'm loving it. I read the original trilogy, this is a book set before those three. I love reading a book where the footnotes add so much to the experience! I know this is supposed to be YA, but I love it too!
ReplyDeleteThat looks really good! I love so many YA books. Well, I love picture books too! I think it's just a guideline for the reading skill you need, not a limit!
DeleteWhere do you live that you have a typhoon raging? I'm in Sendai, hot & humid yet no sign of rain.
ReplyDeleteKyushu!
DeleteI love Julie Garwood. I remember as a 13 year old, my best girlfriends and I would find the sexy parts in her novels and pass them around. Good times.
ReplyDeleteSounds fun fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm listening to Three Times Lucky.
I am reading The Hunger Games trilogy, which isn't my sort of thing at all, but I am finding it strangely engrossing.
ReplyDeleteSofie (age 7) is totally addicted to all things Enid Blyton - mostly the Secret Seven and The Famous Five. We used our recent trip to England to stock up.
And Emily (age 5) is enjoying The, Kissing Hand. She starts kindergarten in less than 2 weeks and is finding this story very comforting right now. Secretly I am loving it too.
Oh dear, hope things are looking up for you now.
ReplyDeleteI'm re-reading How To Talk So Kids Will Listen, and attempting to improve my summer holiday parenting.
K (4) is reading The Story of the Olympics (Usborne Books) and T (1) is *loving* Where is the Green Sheep?
OK, we're *all* loving it...
Typhoon in your belly and outside. Sheesh! Hope neither of those lasts long!
ReplyDeleteI'm still reading Les Miserables, of course, but also Douglas Coupland's Shampoo Planet, Michael Vlessides' Ice Pilots, and William Shakespeare's Henry IV (Part One). I've been reading some old Incredible Hulk comics to my son.
I'm sorry to hear that you're ill. Healing vibes!! I feel like I'm fighting off a cold too - totally inappropriate for summer! Anyhow, my little girl is going nuts over Silly Lily by Toon Books. It's a first time reader but in a super cute cartoon format. It's all about the seasons.
