  1. Well, I barely had any time to read any books this year, but I guess I'd pick the graphic novel Maus. (:

  16. I was impressed with the ingenuity of a wordless children's picture book that I randomly came across in the local library here in Utsunomiya called Zoom: http://www.amazon.com/Zoom-Picture-Puffins-Istvan-Banyai/dp/0140557741. I thought it was ingenious and this New Year's holiday I saw a TV ad that seemed to have stolen the book's concept of zooming out. I recently re-read Black Beauty - trying to instill empathy for animals in my young son. I also want to say that Taro Gomi's books are great for those learning Japanese, and so clever and simple in illustrating concepts. http://www.amazon.com/Zoom-Picture-Puffins-Istvan-Banyai/dp/0140557741

  18. We enjoyed Two Little Bugs by the Sommersets. The way the pages were cut were so clever and the story appeals to adults too. We didn't have this book but a dear friend came over and read it to my kids. As for myself, I thought The Giver is brilliant.
